The Bear Cinemas in New Bern says police are always at Friday and Saturday night shows so guests shouldn't feel concerned about their safety following the shooting massacre in Colorado.
Carmike Cinemas in Jacksonville say they have the same safety precautions.
The Jacksonville Police department says their tactical team goes through training throughout the year involving active shooter scenarios. Tactical team leader Major Patrick Traitor says its a situation they are prepared for. Traitor says, "Basically without saying a whole lot on how we approach these things it's a matter of the officers, their primary goal is to preserve life."
Traitor says while there has never been a similar situation to the one in Colorado, Jacksonville did have a stabbing at the movie theater this past December following a dispute between two people.
