School officials said some parents in Onslow County were alerted to an inappropriate item brought to school by a student, then confiscated by administrators.
Suzie Ulbrich with Onslow County Schools said on Monday morning, students at Meadowview Elementary were talking about a toy gun in someone's backpack.
Administrators said the toy gun was found in a 2nd grade student's backpack, confiscated, and Ulbrich said appropriate disciplinary actions were taken.
Ulbrich added that no one was ever threatened and the toy was not removed from the backpack until administrators took it.
Onslow County Schools says the alert was sent to parents just to assure them the situation was not dangerous and handled.
