The longtime director of the Onslow County Health Department has been fired.
In a letter from the deputy county manager to George O'Daniel, it states "It has been determined that you have acted with grossly inefficient job performance and with unacceptable personal conduct according to the Onslow County personnel policy."
The county says O'Daniel attended a pre-disciplinary conference last week, where the issues were outlined against him, including not communicating information to staff about a transition to a consolidated human services agency, and concerns about accreditation.
The letter says O'Daniel called some of the allegations outrageous and far-fetched, while maintaining accreditation is on target.
O'Daniel can contest the firing.
