The Onslow County Board of Commissioners has declared a curfew for unincorporated parts of the county, effective 7 P.M. Tuesday night.
In a Proclamation of State of Emergency, commissioners stated that "Winter Storm Leon poses an imminent threat of, or existing conditions have caused or will cause, widespread or severe damage, injury, loss of life or property."
Commissioners said the curfew has been implemented upon the recommendation of the Onslow County Sheriff, as well as Emergency Management personnel.
According to the proclamation, the curfew is in effect from 7 PM Tuesday to 7 AM Wednesday. It continues at 6 PM Wednesday to 7 AM on Thursday.
Officials cite hazardous road conditions, possible fallen power lines, and utility service interruptions that need to allow emergency crews, medical personnel, utility crews, and emergency responders access to affected areas.
