North Topsail Wins National Honor For Beach Restoration

Another Eastern Carolina beach has received top national honors.

North Topsail Beach has won the 2014 Best Restored Beach Award from the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association.

Phase one of the town's restoration project was completed last year and completely done with local money. It's part of a five phase plan which will restore all 11 miles of the town's shoreline.

"Curbing the loss of our beach is critical to our future," said Mayor Daniel Tuman. "Wide sandy beaches are our best asset. Not only do they afford our residents and visitors with recreation and access to the ocean, they also protect our properties from storm damage. Economically, they attract visitors from all over the country and globe. They spend money here and help our local and state economy."

The ASBPA created its award in 2001 as a way to highlight the value of restoring beaches on the coast
