As the partial government shutdown rolls on, a food bank open to furloughed workers here in the east finds it is running low on supplies.
The New River Chapel Food Bank is asking the community to help.
The food bank is open to furloughed government employees, which has caused a big increase in the number of people using the food bank.
They are asking for donations of spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, jelly/jam, peanut butter, canned meat, oatmeal, rice, canned fruit, and Ramen noodles.
The food bank would like to note that they do not need baby food, baby cereal, or formula at this time.
The chapel is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and Sunday 9 a.m. to noon. People can donate or receive assistance during those times.
For more information, please call the chapel at 910-449-6801.
For those outside of the local area who would like to donate by mail, the address for the MCAS New River Chapel is: Office of the Chaplain HQ & HQ Squadron MCAS New River Bldg- AS236 PSC Box-21002 Jacksonville, NC 28545-1002.
