New Jacksonville Home Part Of Downtown Revitalization

Two Jacksonville sisters moved into a new home Monday thanks to a program offered through the city.

Arbella and Belinda Jackson's new home is in the downtown area.

Friends and family gathered to celebrate with the sisters as they cut the ribbon on their new home.

Several homes in the downtown area have recently been torn down as new homes are being built.

The city community development residential rehabilitation program worked with the two homeowners, who previously lived in homes side by side on Newberry Street.

When they were told their homes would be demolished, the sisters decided they wanted to stay in the area where they grew up.

Fifteen homes in the downtown area will be rebuilt.

The cost of the Jackson's new home was an estimated $100,000. About half of the cost was a grant, the other half was a loan that the sisters will have to pay off.
