Groundbreaking ceremonies took place Tuesday for what is expected to be one of the largest boating access areas in the east.
Jacksonville Landing is located between the bridges in downtown Jacksonville on the New River across from the USO.
There is a slice of riverfront property which was owned by both the county and private businesses. The county donated its share of the land while, the city bought out a few of the old businesses to create over 60 parking spaces, three boat ramps, two docks and a visitor center.
City officials hope the new landing will bring more people to the area.
There will also be a boardwalk near the park area along the waterfront.
