Navy Corpsman Airlifted To Vidant After Vehicle Crash

The Highway Patrol say a Navy corpsman was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center this morning after side-swiping another vehicle.

Trooper R.W. West says at 9:45 this morning, Matthew McLaughlin, struck Malinda Corley's sport utility vehicle on Bear Creek Road in Hubert. Trooper West said McLaughlin could recognize his Marine Corps sergeant once he was on scene, but could not recall any of the accident.

McLaughlin was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center for treatment of a head trauma. Corley was transported to the Naval Hospital.

Troopers say both drivers were wearing their seat-belts and no alcohol was involved in the collision. The corpsman will be charged with traveling left of center.
