Every year around this time, people in Sneads Ferry in Onslow County wake up to hundreds of flags lining their street, but they don't know where they came from.
Five-hundred flags now line Highway 172 in Sneads Ferry.
Many people know why they are there. Signs say they are in remembrance of September 11th. But local residents say they don't know who is behind the patriotic display.
For eight years now the little flags line three miles of the military corridor from a week before, to a week after September 11th.
Some locals tell us last year about 70 flags were stolen during the two-week long display, but apparently that didn't stop the mystery flag planters from doing it again this year.
