More injured pelicans have washed up on Onslow County beaches, months after hundreds of the protected birds showed up dead.
Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary director Toni O'Neil says three pelicans showed up Monday at Onslow Beach on Camp Lejeune. The three birds were taken to her Hubert sanctuary where they had to be euthanized. This past weekend four other birds were found dead with broken wings.
Last winter more than 200 dead or injured pelicans were found along Onslow County beaches. While necropsies done on some of the dead birds indicated no foul play, O'Neil and others are skeptical.
O'Neil hopes they will not have a repeat of last winter.
