The Onslow County Fire Marshal says a home was destroyed by a lightning strike Friday afternoon.
Brian Kelly says it happened at 158 Stump Sound Church Road in Holly Ridge around 3:51 p.m.
Kelly says a family does live there, but no one was home at the time.
WITN talked with the couple who lives there. They told us they just moved into the house from Charlotte last year and were at the beach at the time.
Sadly, their dog and cat were both inside and died.
In addition to the house, a truck and motorcycle were also destroyed.
We're told the homeowners do have insurance.
