A Jacksonville woman gave away $500 in gas Saturday afternoon.
Gale McDowell filled the gas tanks of 25 strangers at the Citgo on Western Boulevard.
Many people were excited to see what McDowell was doing and get the free gas. Many then gave McDowell a hug of thanks. A line of cars wrapped around the side of the gas station to fill up and meet the woman responsible.
McDowell told WITN, "I decided to go get $1000 out of the bank and bless people in increments of $20. So my daughter, son, and I went out blessing people with $20s until they didn't want to take the $20s from us. So we still had $500. We decided to come to the gas station and we felt like people wouldn't refuse us here, they would take the free money, the free gas."
Marc Caldwell is one of the people that got some free gas from McDowell. He said, "I saw these people with the free gas sign. I said hey I want to see what that's all about. I was talking to Ms. McDowell and they're just blessing people with gas and I thought that was pretty awesome."
McDowell said she chose to give away gas because it's one of the biggest expenses for people today.
