Many are getting ready for Thanksgiving this week, and while many of our young Marines here in the east cannot get home for the holiday, the USO will open its doors and kitchen for them.
The USO in Jacksonville is already decked out for their traditional meal.
On Thanksgiving day from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. any active duty members, dependents, or retirees can grab a plate-- a slice of pie and grab a seat in the dining hall or near one of the big screens to watch football.
Director Deb Fisher says they do all they can to give guests a touch of home- even putting them in touch with those at home with the use of cellphones for calls to family.
For now- the USO has all the volunteers they need-- but could use more green beans, canned corn, and turkeys or ham.
