Taking a curve too quickly is being blamed, at least in part, for a man's death overnight.
Authorities say 31-year-old Shannon Turner died in a crash on Blue Creek Road in Onslow County. Troopers say speed was a factor in the crash that was reported around 10:40 p.m. Thursday.
The Highway Patrol says Turner lost control in a curve between Jim Blake and Ben Williams roads and ran off the highway. His Pontiac Grand Prix barreled through a fence, through a ditch, and then small shrubs before he landed in a private driveway.
Turner was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only one in the car. Troopers say he was almost home when he lost control of the car.
