Jacksonville iServe Fair Matches Volunteers With Nonprofits

The United Way, Volunteer Onslow, and the City of Jacksonville put together the second annual iServe Volunteer Fair on MLK Day this year to help match volunteers with organizations they can be passionate about.

22 Onslow County volunteer seeking agencies will be ready to meet the public and prospective volunteers Monday, January 20th from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Northwoods United Methodist Church at 1528 Gum Branch Road in Jacksonville.

Organizers scheduled the event for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day because it is a date dedicated to the ideals of service to the community. The fair hopes to draw those who traditionally may have other commitments during the usual work week. From one-time volunteer needs to long-term volunteer commitments, the fair will connect those simply looking to give back to an opportunity that fits his or her schedule.

Volunteer Onslow facilitated over 6245 volunteer hours last year, saving local nonprofits the equivalent of $117,106 in "sweat equity."

The iServe event is free and open to all ages. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the CHEW Backpack Program, which provides meals to children who would otherwise go hungry on weekend s when they don’t have meals at school.
