For the second time in as many days, another Jacksonville fast food restaurant had firefighters called to the building.
Jacksonville Public Safety spokeswoman Beth Purcell said crews were called to the Taco Bell on Freedom Way, or Highway 24, at 5:28 Wednesday morning. That restaurant is near Piney Green Road, in the same shopping center as K-Mart.
Employees told firefighters the restaurant had filled with smoke.
According to Purcell, an initial investigation shows the rooftop HVAC unit malfunctioned and caused the building to fill up with smoke.
No injuries were reported.
On Tuesday, the sign for the Wendy's on Western Boulevard went up in dark plumes of smoke around 12:30 p.m.
City Fire Marshal John Reed said that fire was likely caused by a lit cigarette thrown onto mulch underneath the sign. No one was injured in that fire.
