Jacksonville Police have arrested a man they say was trying to sell several pounds worth of khat, a leafy drug popular in the Middle East.
Officials say that they arrested 30-year-old Waddah Almawri of Derby Run Road. He’s been charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell, distribute –schedule I, as well as manufacture schedule I.
Beth Purcell with Jacksonville Police says that khat has the schedule I active ingredient known as cathinone. Purcell says that the leaf is chewed to get an amphetamine like high.
