If you were caught in traffic jams during your Thursday morning commute, Jacksonville Police said you can credit distracted drivers.
By 5:45am on Thursday, Jacksonville Police were responding to a roll-over wreck near the main gate at Camp Lejeune. While there were no injuries, police said an improper lane change prompted a domino effect on traffic.
Police said secondary crashes resulted along Highway 24 near base entrances and at 24 and Piney Green Road. With another crash at Western Boulevard and Highway 17, police were busy in the city.
By 8am, police were also working on two separate multi-car crashes along the bypass, between Sewell Bridge and Montford Point. Officials said four to five people were transported, though no one suffered life-threatening injuries.
Police spokeswoman Beth Purcell told WITN News while all the wrecks remain under investigation, in general, distracted driving or following too closely are the precursors to wrecks in rush hour.
"We're reminding drivers, especially at high-traffic times, just be courteous and cautious," said Purcell.
