Investigators: Father Slapped Son For Throwing Ball At Him Too Hard

A father is charged with child abuse after telling investigators he slapped his son, who is under one, because the child threw a ball at him too hard.

Onslow county Sheriff's deputies arrested 27-year-old Darrence Griffin Junior, a Marine at MCAS New River, Wednesday and charged him with contributing to the delinquency of juvenile by way of abuse and assault on a child under 12, and child abuse. All three charges are misdemeanors.

Investigators say Griffin slapped the child so hard that he left hand and finger imprints on his face.

First off, any man that hits a young child is not a real man. He should be put in the rec yard and the guards should tell the other inmates why he is in jail. Then he will see what it is like to be slapped. Secondly, why do all news reports have to say he is a marine? You don't hear other reports of arrests where they report the offender's occupation. Our military gets a bad enough rap and after all they are humans as well, not superheros. It just annoys me. Im not deffending this guy...hes a tool bag marine or not.

You would be surprised how often this happens. Fathers try to fulfill their own fantasies by living vicariously through the kid. I've witnessed this nonsense when my son was playing little league and a father grabbed his 10 yr old son in the collar, shook him violently and cursed at him. Lucky for him it was his kid and not mine. Did I say that????

I mean, how hard can a one year old throw a ball?

I guess he's trying to "toughen up" the kid....getting it ready for this rough & tumble world we live in.

What a wimp! He calls himself a marine and he can't handle a ball that is thrown from a baby. Wow what a man! Too bad the baby couldn't slap him back.

There is a differance between a spanking (which most kids need) and abuse. This is abuse when you slap a child so hard it leaves the imprint of your hand. My animals get disiplened but not abused. If that baby can throw a ball that hard, he needs to be signed up by a baseball team now.

Was it just a little pop on the hand or a full blown smack across the face?

This is ignorance and meanness! Go to Wal-mart and other store like it, and just watch. People beat their children, yell at them to stop crying and then beat them again. I am talking toddlers! They drag them around like their little legs should go as fast as an adult. It makes me sick! They just keep popping out babies they don't take care of properly.

Children are not adults, but some 'parents' talk to them, and deal with them, like they are. The detail about how it became 'investigated' is omitted, but the lingering hand print must have gotten someone's attention, thankfully.
