We've been following the story of Jacksonville High School wrestler Hugo Rubirosa and his recovery after he was paralyzed from the neck down during a match January 3rd, and shown you how his friends have supported him since his injury. Now the entire wrestling team is helping raise money to finance things he will need as he recovers.

Last time we saw Hugo in the hospital January 11th he could only tap his hand. Now he's regained some feeling below the neck. The Jacksonville High School wrestling team and booster club are hoping for more progress and want to help Hugo as he transitions from the hospital back home so they're hosting the Hope for Hugo Run.

"All the money's going to support Hugo and changing his home around whatever he's gonna need to come home in a wheelchair-- plus he's gonna need health aides," said race director Scott Staup.

The run or walk event is set for March 31st at 8:00 am. If you want to sign up click on the link below or go to active.com.

I am the minister to Hugo from Jarvis Church in Greenville and have visited him almost two dozen times. Hugo has improved to operating an electric wheelchair, all support tubes and IVs have been removed and he is in rehab at the hospital. His spirits have improved immensely and he looks forward to his Jacksonville friends and wrestler team members. He thanks you for the support that he will need as he moves to outpatient therapy in the future. Please continue to pray for him .

I find it absolutely amazing how these kids are putting up so much effort for this young man. He had a GREAT career ahead of him & he's realized how fast it changed! He should be an amazing role model for all athletes. I will be participating in this race. See you there :)
