Holly Ridge Could No Longer Have Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department

The future of a volunteer fire and rescue department in one Onslow County town is up in the air.

Officials tell WITN The Holly Ridge Fire and Rescue Department and the town could not agree on contract terms, so the town terminated the contract.

The town manager tells WITN they have 180 days to come up with an agreement with the department, or Holly Ridge will no longer have its own department.

The town manager says one major issue in the negotiations was fire inspection, and whether that should be done by the town or the department.

The population of Holly Ridge is around 1380.
