The Onslow County Animal Shelter is celebrating National Dog Day this week by offering pet adoptions at half price.
Assistant animal services director Rachel Conklin said they have had about 160 adoptions so far this month.
Conklin said the shelter had quite a few puppies and kittens come through the door and most of them have gone to very caring new homes.
People at the shelter for the half price special Wednesday said they didn't even know about the discount and they planned on hitting the shelter first in their search for a new family pet.
The half price adoption started Tuesday and continues through Thursday.
Normal adoption fees are $140.00 for dogs and $100.00 for cats.
