Gas Prices Down In North Carolina, But Not For Long

Gas prices continued to drop in North Carolina, but that will likely soon change after the first of the year.

GasBuddy.com says the average retail price in the state has dropped 1.3 cents per gallon in the past week, to $3.22 a gallon. That's slightly below the national average of $3.23, which actually went up almost a penny over the last week.

That decrease will probably be short lived. A week from now the state's gas tax will jump by almost 4 cents a gallon, to a record 38.9 cents. This comes after state lawmakers couldn't agree on a proposal that would have capped the state's gas tax at 35 cents.
