A former Onslow County school bus driver got a suspended sentence after a plea deal in court today.
Melvin Morgan of Richlands was originally charged with indecent liberties with a child, sexual activity by a substitute parent, and second degree statutory sex offense.
Days after his arrest last February, prosecutors announced they wouldn't be proceeding on the sex offense charges. After meeting with the victim's mother, the State then determined it wouldn't proceed of the indecent liberties charge after they discovered what happened was a disciplinary action and not a sexual assault. Morgan pleaded guilty to assault on a child less than 12 years old.
In addition to his suspended sentence, Morgan will be on unsupervised probation for two years.
