Crews had to wait for daylight to get a better look at an abandoned home fire Wednesday night in Onslow County.
Fire Marshal Brian Kelly said crews were called to 229 Liberty Park Road in Richlands around 3:15 Wednesday morning.
Crews arrived to find the abandoned home in flames.
Kelly said firefighters from Rhodestown Volunteer, Richlands, Back Swamp Volunteer, and Southwest Volunteer fire departments all responded to knock down the flames in half an hour.
Firefighters said the home is apparently used as a storage facility, and that provided a challenge in gaining control of the blaze.
Crews stayed on scene to snuff out hot spots until 8 a.m. as they also investigated.
Kelly said the fire is under investigation, but could not say if it is considered suspicious at this point.
No injuries were reported.
