On Thursday a FedEx van hit the brakes just in time to avoid a train, but the railroad crossing sign was not so lucky.
Troopers say a FedEx van driver was heading down Riggs Road in Onslow County yesterday afternoon while a train was still moving on the tracks.
The driver swerved to miss the train but did hit the railroad crossing sign and knocked it to the ground. No one was injured in the near-hit.
The van driver will be charged with both failure to stop for the rail road crossing and failing to maintain lane control.
