An Onslow County deputy was sent to the hospital after his cruiser was rear-ended this morning.
Sheriff Ed Brown says Deputy Weldon Ferrell, Jr.'s vehicle was hit from behind while he was driving on U.S. 17 in Jacksonville. Brown says the patrol vehicle was not seriously damaged, but the other car did have substantial damage.
The wreck happened north of the bypass entrance around 8:10 a.m.
The deputy was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital, complaining of a headache.
Delores Foskey of Jacksonville was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.
