County-By-County Road And Weather Conditions

Here are conditions this morning across Eastern Carolina:

Beaufort County - Some clearing on primary roads. Crewshave plowed off snow and put down brine and moved onto secondary roads.


Bertie County - Primary roads partially covered and secondary roads covered with snow/ice.


Carteret County - Primary & secondary roads covered with snow/ice


Craven County - Main and secondary roads partially covered with snow/ice.


Duplin County - Interstates partially covered with snow/ice. Primary roads covered with snow/ice.


Hyde County - Primary and secondary roads covered with snow/ice.


Greene County - Primary roads partially covered with snow/ice, secondary roads covered.


Hertford County - Primary roads partially covered, and secondary roads covered with snow/ice.


Jones County - Primary roads partially covered, and secondary road covered with snow/ice.


Lenoir County - Some clearing on primary roads.


Martin County - Primary roads partially covered, and secondary roads covered with snow/ice.


Nash County - Interstates covered with snow/ice. Primary roads covered with snow/ice.


Onslow County - Primary and secondary roads covered with snow/ice.


Pitt County - Primary and secondary roads covered with snow/ice.


Tyrrell County - Primary roads partially covered, and secondary road covered with snow/ice.


Washington County - Primary roads partially covered, and secondary road covered with snow/ice.


Wayne County - Interstates clear with icy spots, primary and secondary roads covered with snow/ice.


Previous Story

Freezing rain and sleet has been reported in Eastern Carolina today. Here are reports of conditions we have so far:


Beaufort County:

Sleet continues to transition to snow.
Total Snow & Sleet: 3"


Bertie County:

Snow being reported
Total Snow & Sleet: 3"


Carteret County:

It's getting very slippery and dangerous. DOT working to get one lane of primary roads salted. Bridges for now are open. Attacking the roads in earnest now and will regroup and start again at 4 a.m.

Bridge to Radio Island heading to Beaufort was temporarily closed due to a 4-car wreck according to Highway Patrol, but it is now open. Officials reopened the bridge after DOT salted and sanded due to icy condition.

Morehead City reporting sleet since around 7:30 a.m., sleet in Newport, Emerald Isle and Stella. Some streets are becoming slick.


Craven County:

A lot of freezing rain. DOT said they are working to keep the bridges open but it is starting to get really bad at there. The slippery conditions are getting severe enough that they may have to close the bridges at some point.

Sleet was falling for most of the evening but is now transition to snow in New Bern & Havelock. The Highway Patrol says there are no plans at this time to close any bridges in New Bern


Dare County:

Sleet reported in Frisco and Hatteras.


Duplin County:

Snow was reported before midnight.
Total Snow & Sleet: 3"


Greene County:

Snow reported after midnight


Hyde County:

Ice reported in Engelhard.


Jones County:

Sleet reported.


Lenoir County:

Snow reported after midnight
Total Snow & Sleet: 4.0"


Martin County:

Snow reported in Williamston.
Total Snow & Sleet: 3"


Onslow County:

Sleeting in Richlands.

Heavy sleet has been seen in Swansboro, while freezing rain at North Topsail Beach.

Heavy sleet and freezing rain reporting in Jacksonville.

There was a four-vehicle pileup on the Highway 24 bridge between Swansboro and Cape Carteret because of the ice. DOT crews were called in to treat the bridge around 1:30 p.m.


Pamlico County:

In the area of 306 South and 55 East, roads are super slick. One crash near Oriental. Car ran off road, but no serious injuries. DOT has switched to granulated salt because brine is not working now.
Swan Quarter has sleet.

Sleeting in Grantsboro area.


Pitt County:

Greenville streets are covered in sleet/freezing rain/ice mixture.
Snow began falling around midnight.

Tyrrell County:

Snow reported


Washington County:

Snow continues Creswell.

Flurries and sleet in Plymouth.
