A state program to help survivors of deadly tornadoes that struck North Carolina a year ago is in its second phase.

The counseling program called "NC on the Road to Resilience" is part of the state Department of Health and Human Services. It's funded with a $635,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The second phase involves providing support groups, working with schools and churches and providing motivational speakers. It continues until June 25.

Free counseling services continue through a toll-free hotline at 1-866-279-6279, which operates from 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Residents in 10 counties are eligible for the service: Bladen, Cumberland, Halifax, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Onslow, Robeson and Sampson.

The storms killed more than 20 people in North Carolina.
