The cold temperatures and stinging winds led many people who work outdoors to take the day off.
WITN checked in on a half a dozen construction sites in Jacksonville on Tuesday and found only two crews at work.
Roofers at one of the sites said that other specialists who normally work there told them it was just too cold to be outside. Those specialists took the day off.
Other workers said they're hourly employees and preferred sticking it out over giving up their hours.
Both crews took plenty of breaks and warmed up in their vehicles. They say they're looking forward to warmer weather.
