Code Purple Expected For Six Counties Friday

More bad air is heading to Eastern Carolina. The state Division of Air Quality says Code Purple conditions are predicted Friday for Carteret, Craven, Dare, Jones, Pender and Onslow counties.

That means people who are sensitive to air pollution should avoid all physical activity outdoors.

Code Red conditions are expected in Beaufort, Duplin, Hyde, Lenoir, and Pamlico counties as well as the northern Outer Banks. Code Orange conditions, or air quality that is unhealthy for sensitive groups, could occur in the rest of the area.

Smoke from wildfires burning in Dare, as well as Pender and Onslow counties have blanketed the area with thick smoke.

If anyone is coming to east nc for vacation, expect to smell smoke, breathe smoke, exhale smoke, and live a smokey vacation. Just like everyone else here. code purple alert tomorrow, and has been smokey for a month already and it's not out by a long shot. If I could go elsewhere till it's out, I would.

What about all the kids in the camps that are in session right now in that area. ie Pamlico County, Arapahoe area? It sounds like it is time to issue painters masks or something. The are in open cabins and code red and purple is a serious situation.

We are coming from Ohio to Corolla on Sat. Is this fire going to effect our trip? Trying to figure out the counties the fire is effecting, but being from another state is making it difficult. Thanks for any information!

It says code red for the northern outer banks, that includes Corolla. Its probably going to be a little smokey and hazey in Corolla but I would still make the trip. Btw, not an expert just my opinion.

We had a big rain last night(thank the lord) so today is a lot less smokey. It is still worth the trip-makes for some interesting haze affects.
