NEW INFO: Clerk Hit In Head With Hammer During Robbery

A store clerk was hit on the side of the head with a hammer during a robbery this morning.

Onslow County deputies say it happened at the Circle K on Gum Branch Road outside of Jacksonville around 2:30 a.m.

Deputies say a man with a hood over his head came into the store and the clerk at first resisted the robbery.

As the clerk started to overpower the robber, deputies say the man then got out a framing hammer and hit the clerk on the head. The robber ran from the store and the clerk was taken to the hospital for treatment. Deputies say the clerk was treated and released from Onslow Memorial.

So far no one has been arrested.

Was it a rubber hammer or a claw hammer sledgehammer. I would have used a jackhammer

I sure hope the police go after this guy for having a concealed weapon as well. I am sure he doesn't even have a permit for a hammer. Its a good think it wasn't a semi automatic nail gun either. I think they should put tighter laws on hammers, bats, knives, rope, wire ties, cars, rocks and sticks......they should do background investigations and look for mental instability....I hope you see the point.

I'm thinking he read the story about the bank robber that didn't even have to wield his hammer and got ideas.

I think the last clerk killed there was early 90's. Lived down the street from me.
