A little boy clipped by a car on a busy roadway in Onslow County is recovering while more concern is growing about the intersection where he was hit.

The numbers of collisions are going down on Sand Ridge Road in Onslow County while concerns go up after the accident Wednesdsay. People who live and work nearby agree you've got to be extra cautious at the intersection near Crown Point Road.

June sixth last year 11-year-old Katelynn Long tried darting across the street, but she never made it. She was hit by a vehicle and died. Less than a year later, a 12-year-old by tried to do the same thing. Troopers say a car swerved to avoid Sebastian Driggers, but the car still hit the boy's side. Driggers was still at the hospital Thursday.

Some say the responsibility is on the people crossing the street- not the people who maintain it.

Carly Swain asked Jon Davis "Is it dangerous?"
"I don't believe so. You've just gotta be more mindful," said Davis

Another nearby resident said the 45 mile an hour speed limit is too high.

DOT says it does not need to do anything with the intersection saying along Sand Ridge Road in 2009 there were 77 collisions, 73 in 2010, and 66 last year. So the numbers are going down.

The DOT tells us if residents in that area want a change at that intersection they need to contact the local DOT office and offer some specific solutions.

A child was sent to the hospital Wednesday night after he was hit by a car.

The Highway Patrol says about 5:40 pm, 12-year-old Sebastian Driggers of Hubert was hit as he was crossing Sand Ridge road near Crown Point road in front of his home to meet up with friends.

Troopers say he only looked one way and didn't see the car.

The driver was able to slow down, but couldn't avoid hitting the boy. She will not be charged.

Troopers say the boy could have a head fracture, but it it appears he'll recover.
