The charge has been reduced for a Camp Lejeune marine accused of setting a retired marine's American flag on fire.

Jacksonville Police say Vernon Johns was charged with 1st Degree Arson after Robert Grafton's front porch flag was destroyed November 21st, but Friday the district attorney said the charge will be reduced to Injury of Real Property because the home wasn't damaged nor did Johns have malicious intent.

The marine corps says its disciplinary action, if any, will come after the case goes through the civilian court system.

Yea and there will be a big todo about it really wasn't his fault. Then Obama will have a beer with him. The poor guy who's flag was burned will somehow be the villain.

Think maybe injury to personal property may be more appropriate. The flag hanging from the porch does not constitute the flag being real property. Just saying....

I dont understand have a D>A> can do this a US Flag should fall under Federal Law and the last time I heard that burning a US flag was a federal crime.. Also being a marine I hope the corp will lock him in the Brig and throw away the key

Burning a flag of any sort is not in itself a crime. There would be zero charges had this been his own flag that he burned. Its called freedom of expression.
