A Camp Lejeune Marine is facing multiple statutory rape charges after being accused of having sex with a teenager.
Gunnery Sgt. Brian Callendar, 32, of Robin Hood Drive in Jacksonville was charged Thursday by the Jacksonville Police Department with three counts of statutory rape with a child at or above the age of 6; two counts of indecent liberties with a child; three counts of misdemeanor child abuse; and crimes against nature.
Callendar is accused of committing sexual acts with - and attempting to commit suicide in front of a child who was 13-years-old at the time, according to warrants.
His bond was set for $430,000.
Callendar was in custody at the Onslow County Detention Center Thursday afternoon.
According to Beth Purcell, the Jacksonville Police Department spokeswoman, Callendar was arrested without incident and Naval Criminal Investigative Services assisted in the investigation.
Purcell said the investigation still is open and no additional information was available.
