Two military grocery stores closed by the government shutdown are now back up and running which is a big relief to some furloughed civilian workers who had to turn to food banks for help put food on the table during the shutdown.
Officials with Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station say that the Commissaries resumed operations and were open for patrons Monday.
In the past few days the New River Chapel Food Bank has seen triple the amount of people it typically does because of furloughed civil employees.
Late last week the shelves were empty at the food bank, but marines at New River stepped up and helped those in need by donating food, and restocking the food bank.
It was unknown Monday if civilian employees will get paid back for the time they were furloughed.
