NEW INFO: SBI Investigating Possible Cell Phone Abuse

The State Bureau of Investigation confirms there is an investigation into an Onslow County detention officer.

SBI spokeswoman Noelle Talley tells WITN News that their agents are looking into allegations of cell phone misuse by a county jailer. Originally the SBI said the probe involved deputies.

Talley says the investigation was requested by Sheriff Ed Brown and District Attorney Ernie Lee.

Talley says investigation is looking into whether a detention officer misused their cell phone. She said Sheriff Brown is not the subject of the investigation.

I volunteer in a jail here in ENC and just last week I saw a person with 2 cell phones on their hip, in a location where inmates are and can access. If I accidentally bring mine in I can be in major trouble but this person had two! She wasn't wearing a uniform either.

Hmm, perhaps they would like to investigate a married police officer who was texting his girlfriend. The powers that be know of said allegation but swept it under the rug....think I'll make the call. It don't pay to sleep with drug addicts on duty.

I can think of another county the SBI needs to investigate.

    What constitutes "Cell Phone Abuse?"

Some of the posts on this site have absolutely nothing to do with the story. So my question is why are posts approved? Just last week or week before, it was posted that Sheriff Ed Brown was on a month long vacation, and would not return to the office until February.

wow, you stay at home at night while the real men and women handle business! Shes a detention officer. Probably allowing gang bangers to make calls while they are incarcerated. Duhhhhhhh

WOW! I hope there is more to this story than what appears... If not it's a waste of the SBI's time! They could be looking into the State Troopers who are constantly texting on their cell phones while driving!

ONLY in the performance of their duties. With a multimillion dollar Viper system in place how much texting do they really need to do?

Ignorant post? I think not! I am pretty sure with the system they have in their cars the cell phone text are not part of their job duties... Hence me saying an investigation into their phones should be done!
