Swansboro Murder Due In Court

Swansboro police say a man has been arrested and charged in a woman's murder.

They report John Giltz Jr., who is in his 60s, is in jail.

Police tell WITN 50-year-old Susan Zemlick was shot once and killed in the house she lived in on South Dogwood Lane in Swansboro.

Zemlick had been living there since October 2011, according to police.

Police say Giltz was living at the home. His first court appearance is tomorrow. They say they do not have a motive at this time.

The Swansboro police department is holding a press conference at 3:00 this afternoon.

We expect new information about this week's homicide case.

A woman was killed in her home on South Dogwood Lane.

Swansboro police said earlier this week they had a suspect.

Previous Story:

Police tell WITN Susan Zemlick was shot and killed in the house she lived in on South Dogwood Lane in Swansboro.

Police say they were called to the house off Old Hammock Rd. at 10:50 a.m. on Monday.

Police report they do have a suspect but have not yet made an arrest. They emphasized Wednesday morning that the public is not in danger.

They would not identify the suspect but did tell WITN the victim's estranged husband is not a suspect.

Previous Story:
Police in Swansboro are investigating a homicide.

Police now say the person was shot, but have released few other details. We do know it happened on South Dogwood Lane, a quiet cul-de-sac of neat one-story homes in a subdivision off Old Hammock Road.

A barricade has closed off that street while police crime tape surrounds a home half-way up the street. Swansboro police and an Onslow County crime scene unit are still at the scene.

Lawmen say the initial call came in as a suicide, but once investigators arrived that was changed to a homicide.

Neighbors tell us an older couple lives at the home and the man reportedly has some medical issues.

The last fatal shooting in this Onslow County coastal town happened last February when a reserve deputy sheriff killed a Havelock firefighter who was firing a weapon. Prosecutors said that shooting was justified.

WITN News has a reporter at the scene and we'll have updates as more information becomes available.

I don't know how people can take a case that has already had most of the facts established and turn it into some kind of mystery where the law had to put the pieces of the puzzle together. They simply could not tell anyone why it happened. That is the only part that has remained a mystery since Monday, when they already had the suspect.

Well if you have any ideas how to do their job better I'm sure you can run for the new chief of police Buddy! Or you could take yourself to the police academy and become a cop since your so smart??? Before you start badmouthing Swansboro Police get all the facts. They have some good men and women that would be at your assistance the moment you need them. Better yet, why dont you publish your name and address here so they know not to come help you since you feel they are incompetant??

SierreLeigh, I agree with everything you said, except the part about everyone being free to voice their comments and opinions. I have been censored many times on this forum. Lots of times with very valid points or comments.

Marty, thanks and I totally understand you on the censorship. I post on another news forum where things are way more censored than they are here. I was surprised when I saw my response to SR because I shot from the hip. I can't stand when people try to shut others down when they comment on forums like this. That is exactly what it's here for. LOL! :)

I agree with A Friend. The truth will come out. They are covering all the tracks and making sure info is correct before the share it with the public. I am sure there job is not an easy one. This sad event has effected alot of people...the victim, the suspect, friends and family.

I think it is ridiculous that some people would talk the way that they do about things. I have to agree with B. Why are some of you so worried about other ppls business. Do you not have a life. Try this put your self in the shoes of not only the victim shoes but other ppl involved. I think there is on girl on here that needs to really mind her own and get a life. This is a tragic incident and my heart and prayers go out to all that are involved. Not only for the victim and her family but for the suspect and that persons family. Just remember these are people and they all have family somewhere and you should not be quick to judge. So unless you have facts keep you MOUTH SHUT.and GET A LIFE.

If you are going to correct someone you need to start with yourself. "gtramatical" where did you get that word? The correct spelling is grammatical.

Really, it seems as if some of you are more worried about other peoples business than your/ or public safety, you knowing the scoop on what happened to someone else is not going to stop a bullet. Mind your own business, your safer that way.

Goodness, I can't believe how you becker over this terrible incident. It is hard to get the next of kin if there are few avenues to obtain the victim's only kin. This situation is being completely blown out and everything is being done to determine what happened in this case. There is more to the story than can be given to the public right now. Hold on to your pants, things are under control. Maybe you should get a life.
