A man suspected in Thursday afternoon's bank robbery is a one-time insurance agent accused of fraud.
David Sharlow was arrested at a Pender County motel just hours after the First Citizens Bank in Sneads Ferry was robbed around 1:00 p.m.
In 2011, Sharlow was arrested by state Department of Insurance investigators. At the time he was working as an insurance agent for AFLAC in Jacksonville and was accused of submitting 181 falsified applications under real and fake names over an eight month period in 2009 and 2010.
The Department of Insurance says that court case is still pending and Sharlow's insurance license is inactive.
Friday morning a District Court judge raised Sharlow's bond to $100,000.
Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says they have made an arrest in this afternoon's bank robbery in Sneads Ferry.
Brown tells WITN that David Sharlow of Onslow County was arrested in neighboring Pender County around 5:45 p.m.
The First Citizens branch was robbed shortly before 1:00 p.m. by a man who handed a teller a note, threatening to kill the employee if the money wasn't handed over.
The sheriff says not long after the media showed a surveillance picture of the robber they received tips on his identity.
The 38-year-old Sharlow has several DWI convictions along with one for assault on a female.
Authorities in Onslow County are searching for a bank robber this afternoon.
Lawmen say the First Citizen's Bank in Sneads Ferry was robbed shortly before 1:00 p.m.. The bank is located at four corners, the intersection of Highway 210 and 172.
Sheriff Ed Brown says the robber showed no weapon and handed a teller a note demanding money.
Deputies say the man got away in a large dark SUV and no one was injured in the robbery.
