A man lawmen considered armed and dangerous was caught this morning several counties away from where he was first spotted.
Cruz Abney was wanted on some 18 warrants, as well as being an absconder from the parole system. He's being held in the Onslow County jail under a $3.5 million bond
Maysville police tried to pull over a vehicle with Abney inside Wednesday evening, but officers say he jumped out and ran into some woods in the Belgrade area. An officer chased him, but police say he pointed a gun at the officer and managed to get away.
Jacksonville police brought in their Community Response Team, a K-9 unit and its Special Operations Division to help in the search for Abney. Onslow County and Jones County deputies also assisted in the search along with a Highway Patrol helicopter and SBI agents.
The 24-year-old man was finally arrested in Johnston County around mid-day Thursday.
