The fire that destroyed an abandoned house in Swansboro was ruled suspicious and is now under investigation.
Crews were sent to 154 Belgrade-Swansboro Road in Swansboro around 1:30 a.m. Saturday after a passerby reported the fire. The house was determined to be fully involved, but fortunately, no other structures were threatened. Fire crews spent a little less than an hour containing the fire but remained on scene until 5:30 a.m. to handle hot spots.
Swansboro fire officials say five fire department and approximately 23 firefighters responded. Onslow County EMS Medic 5 provided medical support and rehab of the firefighters, and no injuries were reported.
The Onslow County Fire Marshal and the Swansboro Fire Department are handling the investigation of the fire's cause.
