An 8 foot alligator decided to get out of the sun and under some shade this afternoon. Employees of a used car lot found him resting under one of their vehicles.
Workers at Gary's Auto Sales on Highway 172 in Sneads Ferry made the discovery around 2:30 p.m. It was lying under a 2004 Chevy Avalanche and at first they thought it was just a piece of air conditioning duct. They quickly learned otherwise.
Deputies were first called in, and then NC Wildlife officers arrived and loaded the reptile into the back of a lift truck and back to it's natural habitat.
Employees say they have never seen the alligator before and say it likely came from nearby Everett's Creek. The whole thing happened just three miles from Alligator Bay.
