Still Searching For Missing Boater

Still no sign of a missing boater from Onslow County.

Sheriff Deputies say their dive team was back in the New River close to the New River Air Station Saturday morning.

Lawmen say they did find a pair of boots but have not been able to confirm they belong to the missing man.

Reports say the boater was alone when he left the Marina at the New River Marine Corps Air Station Friday morning. He was in a 16 foot boat to check out the boat motor.

About 3 hours later the boat was discovered circling around in the water without the boater.

Sheriff deputies suspended their search around 5 Saturday afternoon and plan to resume around 9am Sunday morning.

I understand that his body was found beside a stream. He was a friend and fellow student of my son.

Do not understand why there is no news about Michael Hastings. There are parents out there who want information on their son and it seems like that search has just gone by the wayside.
