Camp Lejeune Marine, ECU Grad Injured Overseas

A Camp Lejeune Marine and graduate of ECU is on his way back to North Carolina after the 33 year old was severely wounded Saturday in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Steven Matea's job was to neutralize and disarm bombs and IED's.

His parents, who live in Henderson, say Matea suffered injuries to his legs and one of his lungs was pierced after a Taliban missile exploded.

A marine that was beside him died due to the explosion according to Matea's parents.

Matea will receive care at the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and is expected to make a full recovery.

Eleven Camp Lejeune Marines have died in Afghanistan in the past ten days.

Irene- How exactly is this "Obama's war?" I seem to remember that both of these wars started during the previous President's tenure.

Wishing this brave and noble young man a speedy and full recovery and sending heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the 11 other Marines mentioned in this story. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten and my heart and prayers are with their families.
