Father Accused Of Abusing Two Week Old Son

A father is under arrest after deputies say he injured his newborn son because he was crying.

James McPhail of Richlands is charged with child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.

Onslow County deputies say the 22-year-old man intentionally squeezed his then two week old son because he cried during diaper changes. The infant had multiple rib fractures that were healing, a femur fracture and a current rib fracture.

McPhail's bond was set at $25,000.

You always think this could never happen to you, in your family. Until it does.It can not be explained. It can not make sense. If you knew this young man you would know exactly what I am saying. Before you all hang him just remember it could have been your son even though we always think it would never happen to us. I know this because I am his mom. This person who did this horrible thing is not the son, brother, grandson, nephew, we raised and love. God help us all.

There are alot of questions about this story unanswered... Where was the infants mother? Where is the infant now? Who is the caregiver? (Oh thats right there isn't a real caregiver or the infant would not have been hurt) WITN needs to find out more info and update this case so that the people of Eastern NC have all the answers. I think there should be no case in this instance hes guilty I dont care what he's been thru are what he does for a living everyone has a story. If he was so angry from being overseas or in the military he should have told someone I can't deal with a kid rite now I'm gonna hurt it. He should have been a man about it, and admitted he needed help. Not hurt a innocent lil baby. I hope he gets what he deserves, however im sure with the justice system today he will be let out with a slap on the hand. Next time he will probably kill the lil guy then it will be to late. He needs to be shot square in the head. Save someone else from getting hurt.

Sounds like 'Mad Man' is close to this case. Being a true adult means handling your emotions like an adult and being responsible for your actions. If the 'whole of society' starts taking out it's frustrations on the children, that resorts to Barbarianism.

Wow, who would have guessed my post would have raised such a reaction. Facts in this case, hum, lets see a grown man hurts a defenceless 2 week old child, but yet no-one knows the other side of the story! What, did the boy pick on the man? Did he make fun of him? Let me guess the little boy cried, so dad thought the best way to stop him from crying was to put him in the hospital. I by no means are a god fearing man and not "holy than thow". By pain inflicted on the whole family, what did he turn his anger towards them after the little boy? This man is an adult, what whole story could there possibly be? And lets not turn the focus on what kind of dirt does Loving Dad have on him? I am not in the news for braking the fragile bones of a 2 week old child. "So that is that"!!

loving dad, there are all diffrent cases of war witch you should know, some on side lines and others in the deepest crap you have ever seen and how long,it has diffrent afect on each person I raised a son and never laid a hand on him, i am not ok with what happened but you need to know all the facts involved before you pass judgement on any one thats the problem with country, and loving dad I would like to know were do you get off being holy than thow, I bet if some wanted to find some thing on you it can be found, also every one pays for there sins in the end, thankfuly the child will be ok but now there has been pain inflicted on the whole family involved but no one post any concern about that. like i said before god will judge all at the end. so that is that

Why is it so hard for us as a society to accept that meaness and evil are alive and well, I don't care what he has seen or done in his life it does not excuse the fact that he hurt a tiny baby, and for that man and GOD will punish him.

The news needs to only report that the child was hurt. Not that the dad went to war or anything to defend him. Yes I have been to war, but need not take it out on my child. This is a case that this man does not know how to control his anger/rage whatever the case maybe. If the reaction from the public is not anger, or deep concern for the child, than we as a whole should take alook at ourselves as a person. Mad Man, re-read your post, siding with a grown man, give me a break. If I ever hurt my child in anyway I would expect to have no mercy what so ever. And would expect to pay the full price for my actions. 25,000 dollars bond, thats the second crime in this matter. Giving the way the justice system works, this guy is probably at home with his son this very minute. God help this child!!!!!

Oh, and by the way, whoever you are,the dynamics of the relationship are very much a part of what he did/did not do; it's all relevant.
