DEPUTIES: Man Texts Woman With Death Threat

Deputies say a man texted a woman he was going to kill her, and then hid outside her home and waited for her to come out.

Neil Rager of Hubert is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, secret assault and communicating threats.

Onslow County deputies say when the woman came outside, Rager hit her on the head with a 2x4 and tried to stab her with a knife. The woman was able to take the knife away from her attacker.

The 38-year-old Rager is in jail on a $100,000 bond.

Anonymous on Jan 19, 2010 at 09:33 PM, Are you kidding me? HE HIT HER WITH A 2X4 AND TRIED TO STAB HER. There isn't a need for any other part of the story, no matter what transpired befre that instant, if she didn't have a gun on him or something similar it is not important. At the point when you attack someone with the intent to kill them, or even send the threat, all bets are off, you are in need of jail time, or if you happen to be waiting in my yeard with a board and a knife you're more likely to get hot lead. But I'm sure it's all a misunderstanding right? he didn't really mean to hit her with the 2x4 or threaten to kill her right?

Aw cut him/her a break, Audra. Its not easy being a self righteous thug-hugger. I have reasons to hit people over the head with a 2X4 everyday!Just make sure that when I do, the media presents it correctly. I would hate to be made out to look like I committed a crime, or may have mental issues, or anything like that... On a side note, why did she go outside??

Oh yes, Anon, I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for the assault. Why don't you share it with us since you are so "in the know", instead of being an armchair ranger and stamping your feet at everyone for commenting on the posted story as it's presented.

Those of you who are writing bad comments should really know the whole story before you accuse someone of being "a Freak"!!!!! The Deputies did not have the story correct in any way shape or form! You might want to make sure that you get in the entire story! I do understand that the media and such is not the best in the Jacksonville area, so I cant be totally mad at you all because they put out false information. All I ask is that before you label someone or say that people like him is why the world is the way it is, you take the time to make sure you really know what happened!!

Yeah, I'm at a loss here too. It doesn't seem to say he told her he was right outside, BUT... lol If I got a text like that, I wouldnt leave the house. I'd call the police, wait for them to come and take a report, ask them to check around the house. I mean... common sense is dead, I guess. My household had a threatening call.. info theft. They knew where we were, where we use to be, all kinds of personal ID info.. scarey. We reported it. That's what you do... not run outside and wonder why u get clonked over the head.

To POPPA: I agree- thankfully this woman got no more injuries than she did. But those rose-colored glasses you're wearing don't let you see what so many of the rest of us already know: this man probably won't serve the time it takes me to write this comment. Yes, $100,000 is very low. And he will get out when it's lowered. And he'll plead guilty to lesser charges and that "felony" will get him time served, 24 months probation, and the chance to do it all again. Our prisons are full of felons who didn't learn the FIRST time. It's sad, but the world isn't perfect or it wouldn't happen to begin with.

Text him back saying, "The front door is unlocked dude. Come on in and get me!"... then be waiting on the other side with my 357 Mag and load his tail up!!!! I can't understand why she went outside either. That was just plain crazy.
