Identity Released Of Marine Found Death At Camp Lejeune

The Marine Corps has released the identity of a decorated Marine found dead aboard Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville Wednesday afternoon.

They say the man has been identified as Private First Class Timothy Newcomer, age 19, of Winnebago, Illinois.

The base says the Marine was found Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. in the industrial area.

The circumstances of his death are under investigation.

Officials say Newcomer enlisted in the Marine Corps in Oct. 2008 and was an infantry rifleman assigned to Gulf Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. They say his decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.


Naval investigators are looking into the death of a Camp Lejeune Marine on the base.

The base says the Marine was found Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. in the industrial area.

A news release says the Provost Marshal's Office responded and that NCIS is investigating the death.

The Marine's name is not being released until the family is notified.
