Perdue Visits Camp Lejeune As Marines Get Set To Deploy

Governor Beverly Perdue was at Camp Lejeune Monday as thousands of troops prepare to head to Afghanistan.

By the hundreds and thousands the Marines will go in waves. Some of the Marines at Camp Lejeune are leaving Monday night.

Perdue says, "The impact can't be overstated, not just from Camp Lejeune but from all of our military bases."

The governor was briefed Monday morning by military officials from Cherry Point, New River, and Camp Lejeune on the upcoming deployments. Roughly 7,000 are from Camp Lejeune and Camp Pendleton, California.

Officials say about 800 Marines will leave Monday night.
