The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is coming to a North Carolina Marine base to give a pep talk to Marines and sailors facing deployments to Afghanistan as part of the new troop surge.
Adm. Mike Mullen will address the Marines at Camp Lejeune Monday afternoon. President Barack Obama announced last week his plan to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan. Camp Lejeune could supply some of the first surge units by Christmas.
Mullen, the president's chief military adviser, is the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. A 1968 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he has held the post since 2007.
